Abstract
This thesis contains study of the electrochemical and spectral behaviour of two groups of hydrazone compounds to obtain full information about the nature of these compounds in solutions and their electrode reaction at mercury electrode. The thesis comprises of four chapters : Chapter I contains a literature survey on the volatmmetric studies of organic compounds containing hydrazono linkages. Chapter I1 contains the experimental part of the work such as preparation of the solid compounds, preparation of the used solutions and measurements. It contains also informations about the equipments used in the present study. Chapter I11 consists of five parts : Part (1) : includes the results obtained from the polarographic studies of the compounds under investigation in universal buffer solution, containing 45% (v/v) ethanol, of different pH values (2-12). The polarograms of the compounds &-Id) of group I have the same polarographic behaviour. They get reduced through two 2-electron waves in acidic solutions corresponding to the reduction cleavage of -N-N- bond and the saturation of the -N=Ccenter. In alkaline solutions, these compounds showed a single 2-electron wave corresponds to the cleavage of -N-N- bond. For the compounds I, and If, the hydrazono linkage in both compounds reduced through a single 4- electron wave in the acidic solutions or a single 2-electron.
