Abstract

The present work deals with the study of the geology, hydrogeology and hydrochemistry of the pre-Quaternary aquifer in El-Bruk area, north central Sinai, and adjacent areas. Wadi El-Bruk and its tributaries cover a vast area in the north central Sinai, and it is one of the most important tributaries of Wadi El Arish. It lies about 25 km east of G. El Heitan, where it extends roughly in a south-no& direction reaching Bir Thamad area. Wadi El-Bruk extends in a NE direction, &g between G. El Minisherah at north and G. El-Bl-uk at south. Gebel El-Bruk on the other hand, is a doubly plunging anticline with an axial fault and having the E-NE trend Syrian Arc system. A total of 214 samples were collected &om the surface and subsulface successions of El-Bruk area. Eighty one samples were collected fi-om G. El-Bnrk ranging in age from the Early Cretaceous to Early Eocene. Determination of age is based on both a lithological correlation and paleontological (calcareous nannofossils) examination. The sequence (368 m) consists predominantly of limestone, chalky limestone and dolomitic limestone with several intercalations of shaly beds. The succession is underlain by the sandstone of the Malha Fo~mation (Early Cretaceous). A total of 133 subsurface ditch samples were taken Gorn El-Bruk well no. 16 in the same area and the samples rangillg in age &om Late Jurassic to Late Cretaceous. Detes~ninationo f age is based on both palynomorphs and diatoms.
