Abstract The thesis comprises four chapters: CHAPTER I: It includes survey on the co-ordination chemistry of the macrocyclic complexes, the binuclear metal macrocyclic \ complexes and chemistry of 2,2 -biimidazole CHAPTER 11: \ It includes the preparation of; 2,2 -biimidazole,Ac BiIm , Copper(I1) and Nickel(I1) aliphatic dien complexes 2 through the simple addition, Copper (I I) , Nickel (11) and Cobalt(I1) aromatic macrocyclic complexes from Ac BiIm and 2 o-phenylene diamine in the presence of metal perchlorate, chloride and acetate salts. Also it includes the physical measurements. CHAPTER 111: In this chapter, the results of the aliphatic macrocyclic Cu(I1) and Ni(I1) complexes were discussed These macrocyclic complexes were derived from the reaction of Ac BiIm with C~(en)~x~C,u( 1,3-DAP) X , Cu(1.3-DA-2,2-DMP) X 2 2 2 2 2 Ni(en) X , Ni(l,3-DAP) X , and Ni (1,3-DA-2,2-DMP) X where 2 2 2 2 2 2 X = cl; ~10-. The ir spectra of these complexes confirm the 4 I co-ordination via the nitrogen atom of the H C-C=N linkage. 3 - The results show that the Cu(I1) and Ni(I1) macrocyclic Summary M. Sc. complexes have pseudo - octahedral structure. The spectral data of the perchlorate Cu(I1) and Ni(I1) macrocyclic complexes confirm formation of cationic complexes, w h i l s t the spectra of the chloride macrocyclic complexes of these atoms confirm formation of neutral complexes. The simple addition of KSCN solution t o some chloride Cu(I1) and Ni(I1) a l i p h a t i c macrocyclic 3,7 and 10 complexes leads t o formation of macrocyclic complexes 13,14,15 respectively which have pseudo-octahedral structure. CHAPTER C IY) : I n t h i s chapter, the r e s u l t s o f the aromatic macrocyclic Cu(II), Ni(I1) and Co(I1) complexes were discussed. These macrocyclic complexes were derived from the reaction of Ac BiIm with o-phenylene diamine i n the acetate s a l t s f o r 2 Cu(I1) and Ni(II), and i n the presence of cobalt acetate and chloride s a l t s . The r e s u l t s show that the Cu(I1) macrocyclic complexes have pseudo-octahedral structure as shown by EPR and other measurements while the Ni(I1) macrocyclic complexes 5’ and have square planar structure and the complexes 6’ and 8’ have pseudo-octahedral structure. The r e s u l t s o f the Co(I1) macrocyclic complexes have pseudo-octahedral structure as shown by EPR and other measurement. The simple addition of KSCN to the acetate macrocyclic complexes of the metal leads to the complexes where as the co-ordination proceed v i a the nitrogen atom and the simple addition of the d i l . HClO t o 4 Co(I1) acetate macrocyclic complexes leads to formation of pseudo-octahedral neutral complex. |
