Abstract

Systemic embolization, Specially Cerebral embolization is a disease with high morbiddity and mortality that afflicts older people. About 20% of stroke cases are believed to have a cardioeinbolic sourcesi”, transthoracic echocardiography has only been successf~~l in identifying a possible cardioembolic source in a few cases of stroke .This problem is common in patients with changes in left atrium and its appendage 12~31. After the introduction of transesophegeal echocardiography, several studies have shown the superiority of transesophageal ecllocardiograpl-ay over transthoracic in detecting the possible cardioembolic sources.
