Abstract Cotton is attacked by several diseases which cause reduction in plant stand, yield and quality of fibre Fusarium of ootton is one of the most destructive disease attacking cotton i n Egypt. The present investigation was carried out t o elucidate some of the main problems of damping-off disease of cotton with emphasis on the causal pathogen including study of varietal resistant f o r three Egyptian cotton cultivars i.e. Ashmoni, Giza 77 and Giza 74. The work included also, histopathological, physiological studies and factors associated with the resistance of cotton t o dampingoff. The relationship between chemical components of the cotton plant Le. enzyme a c t i v i t i e s (peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase a c t i v i t i e s ) , phenols components (total phenols, free phenols and o r t ho-d ihydroxyphenol ) and resistance, or susceptibility of cotton cultivars to damping-off disease was studied. The studies also , included chemical control by using Vitavax-300 fungicide as seed-dresser against the E. owsporum f. sp.vasinfectum. |
