Abstract

!&to e~pe~inenwtse re coilducted at the Gxperimeental Farm of the Taculty of Agriculture, at Kafr El-Sheikh, Tanta University duriag 1975 and 1976 seasons. The objective of these experiments were t o study ’the effect of three nitrogen levels, 40, 6C and 80 kg. X/Peddan and time of i-Ls split-application during four developmen-La1 stages (tillering, panicle i n i t i a t i o n , reduction division, and lie~ding stage) on the perforimiice of to Egyptian (G.159 mcl G. 170) and oile introduced ( 125 79) rice cultivars, Grain yield, yield components, pleat height, physical , physicocliei~~icaaln d chemical were t e s t ed. Aspli’c- S p l i t plot experinental design with hour replication was used in both seasons, the main plots were assigned to be the c u l t i v a r s , IE 573; Gizz 159 ( G.159) and G i z a 170 ((3.170) the sub plots were assigned t o the three levels of N; namely, 40, GO and 80 N uiiits per f eddan and the sub sub plots to the four-nodes of nitrogen application, Uwh aiiiouiit was applied in the following ways : ( i ) TI, the t o t a l a~louiit was applied i n one dressing a t the geriod of nost cctivc tillcring (15 dqrs cfter transplanting).( ii) T2, a half a t the period of ri10st active tillering and half a t the neck-nede differentiation stage (iii)5 ’3 ’ one thi rd a t the period of most act ive Lillering at the active reduction division stage . ( iv) T4, a quarter at the pe~.iod of most nctive tillering, at the neck-node dif f erentistion stage, a.t the nost ?.c-kive reductioc divisioa stage and at the most active r::.pening stage (1-5 days a f t e r heading )
