Abstract This work was conducted to compose an artificial diet more suitable for laboratory rearing the sugar cane borer, Sesamia cretica (Led.), and to maintain vigorous culture necessary for a large-sacale laboratory programmes around the year. Therefore, some trials were done to obtain this ideal artificial diet and to compare its efficiency with that of the preferable hosts (maize and sugar cane). Individual and mass rearing were investigated on this diet. Also, the effect of parental ages on fecundity and sex ratio and adult nutritive requirements were studied. |
