Abstract
T h i s work was c a r r i e d out a t t h e Exocrimental Farm of thc Facu sons l t y of Pgriculturcl , t:afr El-Sheikh , d u r i n g the surnrnt?~. ::paof 1989 and 1389.It aimed t o s t u d y t h e e f f e c t of ttiree i n t e r c r o p p i n g s y s t e m s between cowpea and cucumber p l a n t s i.e. Ii (coupea p l a n t e d on Soiltt-I side of t h e r i d g e ) , I (cowpea p l a n t e d cn North s i d e of t h e ridqe 2 and Ij (cowpea p l a n t e d on bnth s i d e s of thp r i d g e ) . Each i n t e r - c r o p p i n g s y s t e m c o n t a i n e d t h r e e d i s t a n c e s of cowpea p l a n t s (3n , 45 and 6fl cm) , w h i l e cucumber p l a n t s were ’ c u l t i v a t e d a t a s p a c i n g of 30 cm. T h e r e f o r e , t h e experiment inclqaed n i n e treatments , uhich L~iere t h e combination between tht? thrce intercropping system:; and t h e d i s t a n c e s of cowpea p l a n t s , i n a d d i t i o n t o two treatments for p u r e s t a n d p l a n t i n g o f e a c h c r o p (I[ I 1. P c o m p l e t e l y randomized block d e s i g n with f o u r r e p l i c a t i o n s 7 was used. The a r e a of each e x p e r i m e n t a l p l o t was 13.5 m .
