Abstract The present work was designed to detect. the hemostatic changes caused by exchange transfusion and or phototherapy as regards coagulation study;[bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time], fibrinolytic action [antithrombin III, a1 -antitrypin, a2- macroglobulin euglobulin lysis time, fibrinogen degradation products],platelet count and platelet adhesiveness. Also one important aim was to study the efficacy of exchange transfusion and /or phototherapy in the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. This study was carried out on forty-eight(48) newborn infants divided into four groups. The first group included twelve (12) newborn infants suffering from hyperbilirubinemia and treated by exchange transfusion [group A]. The second group composed of twelve(12) newborn infants suffering from hyperbilirubinemia and subjected to continuous phototherapy (Group. B). The third group consisted of twelve (12) newborn infants suffering from hyperbilirubinemia and treated by exchange transfusion in combination with phototherapy (Group C). The fourth group consisted of twelve (12) healthy newborn infants serving as a reference group. |
