Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of various metal surface treatments on the retention of cast base metal dowels cemented with three different luting agents to conditioned root canals. A hundred and twenty extracted, caries free human maxillary incisors were collected and stored in normal saline solution until they were used in the experiment. The crowns of teeth were cut at the cemento-enamel junction, and pulpal tissues in the roots was removed. The roots were mounted in a special metal chucks then worked on a watchmaker’s lathe with an engine drill (Peeso reamer no. 6). All the prepared root channels were of 8 mm. length, 1.7 mm. diameter, and degree of taperness corresponding to that of the drill used. |
