Abstract During the recent years there has teen considerable interest in the environmental hazardo presented by insecticides Profenofos, one of the oreanophosphorus insecticides, which 1s still used in the control of the phytophagous insects in Egypt. There 1s a lack of information concerning the unexpected aide effect of this compound on the non-target organisms in our environment. Thus, Dokkl 4 laying hens were used as test .e.nlmals to study the environmental toxicology of pro fenofos. The results are summarized as follows: - Acute toxicity: Results demonotrate th6t the acute toxicity ’in hens to profenofos is’ very high. The 1DSO for a Dingle oral dose 24 hours after admin1strst1on 1D 15 mg/kg. (bs w, 1. - Clinical assessment of delayed neurotoxicity: Based on the clinical observations, reoults show that profenofoa can cause mild neurotoxic effects in hens similar to that found in leptophos- treated hene. However. these effects were founu to be somewhat inconsistent in profenofos-treeted heno and were severe in,the positive control hens. leptophos-treated hens. |
