Abstract The present work was conducted in the Rehydration Centre of Tanta University Hospital, Pediatric Department to evaluate some coagulation and fibrinolytic systems parameters in cases with diarrheal hypernatremic dehydration.35 infants suffering from acute diarrhea with moderate to severe dehydration were studied, 20 cases were hypernatremic and 15 cases were non hypernatremic. Ten healthy controls of matched age and sex were included in the study. They were admitted to the centre and clinically evaluated and the following investigations were done : serum sodium and potassium level, complete blood picture, bleeding time, coagulation time, prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time.Plasma fibrinogen, plasma alpha-2- macroglobulin and plasma activity of protein C. In HD group, the laboratory investigations were repeated after correction of dehydration and return of serum sodium to normal range. |
