Abstract The present work was conducted in the Rehydration Centre of Tanta University Hospital, Pediatric Department to evaluate coagulation defects in cases with diarrheal hypernatremic dehydration.30 infants suffering from acute diarrlea some of them complicated by hypernatremic dehydration were studied, compared with 20 healthy controls of matched age and sex.They were admitted to the centre and clinically evaluated, and the following investigation were done; serum sodium level, prothrombin time, thromboplastin time, plasma protein C and plasma protein S activity.In HD group there was a significant prolongation of prothrombin time and thromboplastin time as compared to controls, and also there was significant decrease in plasma protein C and protein S activities as compared to controls.There was significant negative correlation between serum sodium level and both plasma protein C and protein S activity. |
