Abstract Depressive disorders are wide spread clinical syndromes. They result from interaction of many etiologic factors including genetic predisposition, environmental stresses whether internal or external and social experiences, This leads to a biological reaction characterized by alteration in the functional levels of some biogenic mines e,g, serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, as well as disturbances in electrolytes and endocrine l3ysfunction, Thus all antidepressant drugs act through affection of these biogenic mines. So, the aim of this work was to evaluate the blood serotonin level and essential elements before and after one month therapy with the tricyclic antidepressant amitriptylene (ryptazol). |
