Abstract

Circulating Immune Complexes (CICs) are not necessarily pathogenic. They represent a physiologic mechanism for the removal of exogenous and endogenous antigens (Ags) and are usually eliminated without resulting in tissue injury. They are detected in normal subjects, have circadian and seasonal variations, and vary with food ingestion and exercise (Isenberg et al., 198 1 and Terr et al.,l99 1).The generation and persistence of immune complexes, in circulating blood or any given tissues, obviously depends on the concomitance of Ag and atibodies (Abs). The generation of significant amount of ICs now appears to be important feature in certain types of immunologic states (Rose et al., 1986 and Stities and charming Rodgers, 199 1).
