Abstract Historically, the term ”Premedication” was first used in the United states of America and then in Britian during the 1920’s . Premedication of children was a necessity for the safe conduct of the general anesthetic , At a time when most muscle relaxation was provided by volatile anesthetics. Preanaesthetic medication with an opiate and an anticholinergic agent rapidly gained general acceptance, The use of premedication in children has come full circle from the heavy sedation of the early years to the unpremedicated trend of the 70’s and 80’s and now a trend to preinduction sedation. Various premedications have been developed using different routes of administration . |
