Abstract
-This study was conducted on 40 patients (representing 80 carotids) they were 23 males and 17 females .-All the patient were evaluated by B- mode, Duplex and color Doppler ultrasound and eight of them are exposed to angiographic examination .-The incidence of the risk factors in 40 patients was studied and It was found that the association of more than one factor increased the risk of atherosclerotic stenosis and the most frequent association was hypertension and smoking .-Thirty seven of the examined carotids were found normal, one with carotid body tumor, one with aneurysm, one with traumatic cavernous fistula and 40 carotids had plaques.The nature of the plaques were studied.The carotids were classified according to the degree of stenosis into mild (14 carotids), moderate (14 carotids) and severe stenosis (6 carotids) and total occlusion (3 carotids).We used B-mode and color duplex for detection of stenosis less than 60% (mild and moderate) and we depend on doppler spectrum analysis for detection of severe stenosis(more than 60%).Comparison between CCDI findings and angiographic findings is done in 16 carotid systems (8 patients).The overall results of our study were compared to those of other works.
