Abstract Forty two patients were included in the study 54.8% were females and 47.6% were in the young adult and middle age groups.Housewifes ,farmers and workers were the commonest to be inflicted by spinal injury(47.6%).The lumbar region was more affected by both types of trauma impact & acc./dec. forces). The D12- L1 junction was the predominant site for all of fracture patterns . The burst fracture was the most common type of all fracture patterns.Neurologic injury was more common with burst fractures, than wedge fractures .The higher the level of the spinal fracture ,the greater was the neurologic affection.Studying the different radiographic parameters showed that a mean kyphotic angle >42 degrees ,a mean A.C.A.>lS degrees & a mean A.P.O. >4.7 mm., all were associated with variable degrees of paraparesis . A mean N.C.C. >60 % was associated with paraplegia . The mean kyphotic angle producing visceral affection was larger than that producing motor affection ,while the mean N.C.C.was less than that produced motor affection . |
