Abstract

Vecography of the lower limb may be performed in two principally different ways, Ascending and descending method. Ascending phlebography is the most popular lower extremity technique, with the patient in semierect position on a tilting flouroscopic table contrast is injected into a dorsal foot vein and multiple films are obtained as contrast ascends This technique is a well accepted and reliable method for evaluating the venous system in patients with phlebothrombosis, chronic venous stasis or varicose veins. Ascending phlebography in a material of 10 patients clinically diagnosed to have deep vein thrombosis indicated that the most common roentgenologic signs were constant filling defects and the main location was the lower leg while non filling of deep veins was rare and enc0unter.d only in one case and it requires a control examination to make the diagnosis more certain. Also negative radiographic findings were recorded in clinically positive cases so phlebography ought to be in more common use especially in clinically uncertain cases before starting treatment.
