Abstract 6.1 The Ex-Situ ECTDMS Technique The present study essentially relies on the application of the newly devised ~lectro~hemical -Th ermal Desorption Hass 3pectroscopy (ECTDMS) technique. In an ECTDMS experiment, the adsorption layer under potential control is formed on a Pt electrode which is then emersed from the electrochemical cell which is coupled to UHV apparatus and drawn up into the analysis position. Then, heated by a 1 kW projector lamp, desorbing species could be monitored by using a mass spectrometer as a function of temperature. 6.2 The Objectives Of The Investigation The present study has been undertaken: To analyze the double layer of a Pt electrode emersed from sulphuric acid medium throwing the light from the compositiond and configurational point of view on the diverse species populating the electrode surface at different potentials. r To characterize the nature of a CO adsorbate on Pt highlighting the influence of the adsorption potential on the identity and electrochemical reactivity of this adsorption layer. To determine the identity and the mole fractions of the tenaciously held poisoning electrode surface species formed during the adsorption of the methanol on the Pt anode. |
