Abstract This thesis is the product of the scientific co-oparat ion between the Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Tanta University and the Atomic Physics Laboratory, Stirling University, U.K. in the field of the atomic physics. Electron photon coincidence technique has been used to study the excitation of the 5lp state in Sr at electron incident energies 30.3, 45.0 and 58.4 eV. This experiment involved the measurements of the linear and circular polarisation Stokes parameters of the radiation emitted in a direction perpendicular to the scattering plane. Vector polarization and coherence parameters of the coincident radiation provided direct experimental evidence of the coherent nature of the excitation process. from the analysis of the experimental data, the ratio 1 of the differential cross-sections for magnetic sublevels excitation and the phase difference 1x1 between the corresponding excitation amplitudes are deduced. The target parameters (LL, Po and y ) are extracted which characterise the excited 51 P state. The sign of the angular momentum transfer L,L from the electrons to the target atoms was investigated by measuring the circular polarisation P3 of the decay light. |
