Abstract

Kupicha (1976) has recently revised the genus ,”l.cl,,a. Like several authors, Kupicha has delimited this genus into the two subgenera Vici-l...laa nd Uila. In the present study 16 different taxa, belonging to the four sections of subgenus -V- i--c i-l -- la and five sections of subgenus V.cc.ls, have been investigated . Correlations among the different taxa have been made based on morphological and cytological characters as well as on the storage seed protein profiles indicated by electrophotograms after acrylamide gel electrophorisis. The species interrelationships of these taxa are also discussed in the light of their biosystematic relationships as indicated by their reproductive isolation in %nterspecific crosses. In addition to the comparisons made between the various taxa which have been derived from the present study, they were also compared with the sectional delimitations of the genus J!l!.lua published earlier. Moreover, the evolutionary patterns of the changes of karyotype morphology in the genus are also discussed in relation to other characters and compared with other related genera. Kupicha (1976) i nc luded both ..: .sy_Lv-aL.’.c.a and V . -d-u metorum in sect ion of su_bqe-nuUVs .i._c_.-l.l.- l..Ia n the flora of USSR, however, they have been delimited in section -C- r... -a. .........c........ c a of subgenus Cracordea a 1 ow w i th V,. bit-h.~.n.ic.. a V., .c.lnere.a and 1,. cracsa. In the present study. both V.. ... . syJ.vit.l..c-i? and .Y,. d-umetorum have been found di P loid with 2n=14. They also exhibited a high degree of similarity , in karyotypemorphology and in having 3 submetacentric and one subtelocentric chromosome pairs.
