Abstract The present thesis comprises four chapters : Chapter I contains a literature survey on the previous polarographic studies on ,organic compounds containing azomethine, hydrazono, and hydrazide linkages at DME. Chapter I1 contains the experimental steps performed in the present work name1y ; preparation of solid compounds, preparation of solutions, working procedures and measurements. Also, this part contains description of the instrumentations used in the present studies which covers the electrochemical tuols :(a) D.C p~larography~usindgr opping mercury electrode (b) Cyclic voltammetry, using hanging mrcury DROP electrode and (C) Controlled potential coulometry, using mercury pool. cathode . Chapter I11 includes two parts A and B which contain t.he obtained results and discussions. Part (A) includes the electrochemical studies of some arylidene derivat-ives of malonichydrazides(series I) in aqueous ethanolic buffer solutions containing 508 (by volume) ethanol at DME. The polarograms of the depolarizers deprived of NO2-group are similar, since they get reduced through a single 8-electron wave in acidic solutions and a 4-electron wave in alkaline ones, respectively. The wave observed in acidic solutions (p~’sG7.0)co rresponds to the reduction of the two hydrazono groups (-NH-N=c<) present in the depolarizer molecules. |
