Abstract This thesis comprises five chapters: The f i r s t of which deals with a general review on the coordination chemistry of Schiff base complexes of lanthanides with special reference to chelating properties of t r i d e n t a t e Schiff bases ligands . The second chapter describes the procedure used for the preparation of the organic ligands and t h e i r metal complexes. Also, the purification of solvents, the preparation of solutions and the different instruments u t i l i s e d i n these s t u d i e s a r e reported . The elemental analysis of the prepared metal complexes showed that N-salicylidenewith lanthanide metal ions form 2:3 molar r a t i o while N-salicylidene-anthranilic acid with lanthanide metal ions forms 1:2 molar r a t i o . The third chapter includes the r e s u l t s obtained and the discussion of electronic , i n f r a r e d and 1k mr spe c t r a of t r i d e n t a t e Schi f f base l igands . The electronic spectra of the organic ligands showed four absorption bands assigned. |
