Abstract The e f f e c t of UV i r r a d i a t i o n (240-400 nm) on various aspects of growth has been studies i n Alternarfa a l t e r n a t a , Aspergillus flavus, Fusariu.m solani and penicillium-.Near UV i r r a d i a t i o n w a s found to i n h i b i t germination of spores especially when applied for long periods. A. a l t e r n a t a was the most r e s i s t a n t to near-UV i r r a d i a t i o n , whi le -P, s o l a n i was t h e most s e n s i t i v e t o i t . Far-UV i r r a d i a t i o n w a s more e f f e c t i v e than near-UV i n inducing the i n h i b i t i o n of spore germination. The sequence of r e s i s t a n c e could be a s fol lows : -A . a l t e r n a t a , -A . f l a v u s , 2. notatum and E. sole. The development of germ tubes was markedly inhibi t e d by near-U,V and far-UV.. Growth, was retarded by near-UV i r r a d i a t i o n especi a l l y when subjected for long periods. |
