Abstract

The main objective of this work is to determine the efficiency of photocatalytic degradation of dyestuffs from aqueous synthetic sample as well as from real textile wastewaters in the presence of an artificial source of ultraviolet irradiation (U.V.).This is done by using Hydromag-TiO2 as a locally produced coagulant and photocatalyst. The efficiency of the reactions in presence of hydrogen peroxide as a hydroxyl radical source in combination of Hydromag-TiO2 and oxygen supplied to the reaction media using aeration was investigated. Acidic, basic, direct, and disperse dyestuffs were used during the study. An industrial color-containing wastewater from a textile company was also used in this study. Optimal Hydromag-TiO2 as well as hydrogen peroxide dose had been determined during the reactions of each dye-type. A comparison between conventional chemical treatment using the Jar Test experiments and the photo-catalytic degradation process using the non-conventional coagulant (Hydromag) has been investigated. The results obtained clarify that the use of Hydromag-TiO2 gives a promise novel way to wastewater treatments as a clean and cheap technology.
