This thesis presents an application of advanced microcontroller techniques for variable speed drive system. Such technology has a wide application in many industrial fields. Different types of two and three level pulse width modulation (PWM) and their harmonic spectrum are discussed in this thesis. Also it presents the inodeling and the implementation of the two and three level PWM schemes.
The thesis includes the simulation analysis based on SIMULINK toolbox provided by MATLAB programming package for different types of two as well as three level PWM and the drive system (two and three level inverter circuits feed three-phase induction motor).
Moreover a practical realization of a different two and three level PWM types have been constructed and tested. The practical simulation includes the necessary compatible hardware interface circuits and software programs. The compatible hardware interface circuits are:
1- Two and three level isolated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based for three-phase inverter.
2- Control circuits.
