SUMMARY
The present work aims for investigating the suitability of using natural dyes in printing eco-friendly clothes (one piece clothes) made of natural fabrics viz, cotton, wool or silk. This was done via using the natural colour at both Beta Vulgaris L and Curcuma Longa. The colour was used either in the fine powder form using printing pigment technique or its extract in presence or absence of binder or mordants.
Summaries of this proceeding studies along with conclusion arrived at there of are given below:
1. Evaluation of Natural Colours Derived from Beta Vulgaris L or Curcuma Longa in Printing Natural Fabrics:
In this chapter, Beta Vulgaris L and Curcuma Longa were evaluated as natural dyes, where printing pastes containing different concentrations of each of them in its powder form in presence or absence of binder were prepared. Natural fabrics (cotton, wool or silk) were printed with these pastes via screen (i.e. screen printing). This is done immediately after preparation of the pastes or after storing for 48 hours.
1.1. Using Beta Vulgaris L:
In case of using Beta Vulgaris L, after printing and drying the colour was fixed via steaming at 120°C for 30 minutes. The printed goods were washed according to the method described in the experimental section. Finally the printed fabrics were assessed for K/S and overall fastness properties.
The results obtained can be summarized as follows. The colour strength increases as the concentration of (Beta Vulgaris) powder in the printing paste increases till it reach a maximum at 12.5%. Further increase in the concentration (i.e. from 12.5 to 20%) is accompanied by relatively a slight decrease in the.
