Abstract Corrosion is one of the causes of breakdown in machinery and material leading to loss of man-power, material and money amounting in billions of dollars of damages worldwide. Organic corrosion inhibitors are an effective way to reduce metal corrosion. The inhibitors act by adsorbing into the metal surface, thus providing a barrier to the corrosive environment. The aim of this work is preparation and evaluation of some organic inhibitors and their use in industrial applications in such a way to improve the efficiency of combating the materials to corrosion. For such propose four types of organic corrosion inhibitors were prepared. Evaluation of corrosion inhibitors by weight loss technique applied in different media (artificial seawater, acid media, and light wax distillate feedstock (LWD) and heavy wax distillate feedstock (HWD)). The inhibitor efficiency of all prepared corrosion inhibitor formulas is more effective in acid media and petroleum distillate more than in artificial seawater. The addition of corrosion inhibitor to epoxy primer makes it more corrosion resistant than epoxy primer pigmented with zinc phosphate and iron oxide. The inhibitor efficiency of prepared corrosion inhibitor formulas based on linseed oil fatty acid, dehydrated castor oil fatty acid and rosin are more effective than formulations based on tall oil fatty acid. |
