Abstract
This thesis consists of two main phases, both concerns the design of radial distribution systems. The first phase deals with the voltage DROP calculations and control while the second talks about the energy loss calculations.
In the first part of this thesis, a method of designing medium voltage radial distributors with laterals that ensures good performance under practical operating conditions is suggested The suggested method determines the combinations of the transformers tap settings of all the distribution transformers along the distributor and the cross sectional areas of the cables to be used so as to have one or two settings of the transformers all around the year.
In the present work, a new approximate method of calculating the energy loss along defined period is suggested The method is straightforward, simple and needs modest computational effort. The suggested method was tested through its application to distributor with so many tapping points feeding loads of different load curves. The obtained results when compared with those obtained by exact loss calculations show good agreement The algorithms, computer programs in MATLAB language for the exact as well as the suggested method are developed and given.
