Abstract

Corrosion investigations of some selected glasses of borosilicate, lead iron phosphate and cabal were carried out by immersing the specified grains samples of the studied glasses in acidic, alkaline solutions, distilled water and underground water at 95 C and for extended period of time. The same procedure was repeated for the same samples after subjecting them to varying doses of gamma irradiation.
It is found that the corrosion weight loss of the grains varied with the type and composition of the glass, the nature of attacking solution, and the time of immersing the grains in the specified solution. The corrosion weight loss data of borosilicate and lead iron phosphate glasses are very small and limited while the cabal glasses reveal relatively higher weight losses. Underground water shows very low measurable corrosion weight loss.
