Any successful business needs to know who its ustomers and potential customers are and what they want, without that information it is difficult to make decisions bout what product or service to sell. Market research is a way of finding out this information using various research mechniques.
We can get the data needed for marketing research either by turning to exiting information (secondary data) or by generating our own (primary data). How ever, many marketing questions can be answered satisfactorily by only using primary data.
Survey is the main source of information an not only for overall levels of participation but also for differences in participation between different groups in the community.
Survey is considered also a successful form of data collection for different fields of tourism. Domestic tourism as a type of tourism also relies on interview surveys for basic statistical information. Internationally, the main type of surveys used in domestic tourism is called ”household survey”.
Household surrey is a type of tourism surveys that has been developed to give assistance in determining the demographic, social and economic profile of visitors and to assess the volume of domestic travel generated for tourism purpose by specific regions.
Based up on the literature reviewed and the analysis of data gathered from applying household survey, we can suggest a number of significant can conclusions as follows:
1- Surveys are able to gain the facts about and the opinions of individuals who would perhaps be neglected by other methods. It also can give more accurate measurement of a population’s characteristics, attributes and behavior.
2- one of the chief weaknesses in tourism official and non official statistics is the failure to label or describe figures accurately.
3- At present, there is no data available in Egypt concerning the statistics of domestic tourism, Therefore valuable information required for planning and marketing is not available.
4- Household survey plays an important and vital role in determining the profile of domestic tourism demand. This positively affects the dependence on household survey as an effective tool for tourist decision makers.
5- Setting up strong coordinated statistical tourism program that is designed using related statistical variables is becoming essential and inevitable.
6- Tourism authorities in Egypt should use tourism statistics to plan for the future in order to minimizes the risk and maximize the possibilities of success.
7- It should be a serious attention to modern statistical tools such as household survey that the concentration on the profile of domestic travel demand. Also the techniques and these tools application should be taken into consideration to realize them as soon as possible.
