Abstract
The aim of this work was to study disturbances of carbohydrate metabolism In cases of bilharzial, viral and mixed viral and biiharzial liver cirrhosis- taking the oral glucose tolerance as a parameter.
This study was conducted on 45 subjects (30 patients with liver fibrosis and/or cirrhosis, and 15 control subjects). All patients were subjected to the following:
A) Full clinical assessment, including careful history
taking and thorough clinical examination.
B) Investigat ions;
1) Routine investigations, including urine G stool analysis and full blood picture,
2.J Liver function tests, including total serum bilirubin, serum transaminases (GOT and GPT), alkaline phosphatase, total serum proteins, serum albumin, serum globulin, A/G ratio, prothrombin time and prothrombin concentration,
3} Oral glucose tolerance test.
4) Sigmoidoscopy and rectal snips for hiLharziasus.
