Abstract Endotrachea1 intubation is an anaesthetic technique although it is rather easy in the hands of expertees yet some difficulties may encountered in clinical anaesthetic practice because of i nadequate preoperative evaluation which may fail to identify the abnormal anatomy that makes intubation difficult. A problem which may sometimes face the pract icing anaesthetists and necessitates the adoption of preoperative indices which can help in the detection of suspected difficult cases in an attempt to make easy intubation and thus ensures safety of the patients. So, the airn of this study was to assess the preoperative indices to anticipate difficult endatracheal intubation before anaesthesia in an attempt to provide a safe technique for endotracheal intubation and to avoid the hazards that may be encountered under such circumstances. This work was carried out on two hundred patients scheduled for general surgery. The recorded parameters includes : I. Clinical evaluation : 1- Viewing and palpating the neck anteriorly and laterally. 2- Assessment of the roandibular mobility by mouth opening. |
