Abstract The present study was carried out in the period between Augusts 2002 and May 2004 in the Internal Medicine Department, Menoufiya University Hospitals. The study included 40 patients with newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus less than one year duration (20 male patients aged from 36 to 48 years with mean age 42.4 years and 20 female patients aged from 36 to 50 years with mean age 44.4 years) and 10 healthy subjects (5 male subjects aged from 36 to 48 years with mean age 42 years and 5 female subjects aged from 36 to 50 years with mean age 44 years) served as a conti-ol group. Aim of the work: The work aims at studying the intimal changes in the common carotid and femoral arteries and pulse wave analysis in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes to verify the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis. Subjects and Methods: The selection of patients in this work had taken into consideration the presence of: - Inclusion criteria: Newly diagnosed diabetic patients whether symptomatic or asymptornatic as regards to diabetic symptoms. Exclusion criteria: - Cerebrovascular diseases 2- Smoking 3- Hyperurcemia 4- Peripheral vascular diseases 5- Ischemic heart diseases All subjects were subjected to the/hi/owing: — Thorough history taking including age, sex, smoking, symptoms of diabetes such as polyuria, polydepsia, polyphagia arid unexplained |
