Abstract

Diabetes is the most common of serious metabolic diseases of
human (Baired et al., 1992). Angiopathy and neuropathy are usually
present in the vessels of the inner ear and eighth nerve, so one would
expect a functional degeneration or deterioration of hearing in diabetics as
a result of the vascular or the neural pathology (Huang et al., 1992).
Measurement of auditory brainstem responses (ABR) and
specially its latencies provides an opportunity to evaluate the functional
integrity of the auditory pathway from the inner ear to inferior colliculus in
the upper brainstem (Virtaniemi et al., 1993).
