Abstract Several methods of identifying pregnant women who are at risk for pre—eclampsia have been proposed. These include the use of an angiotensin II pressor response, the roll—over test, the mean arterial pressure test and microalbuminuria. The rol.l over test on supine pressor test was first described by Gant et al. (1974). This is based upon the fact that there is altered cardiovascular reactivity in patients who later develop pregnancy-induced hypertension. This study comprised 100 normal primigravid women between 24 and 32 weeks of gestation. Once the women were entered into the study, a urine specimen was analysed for microalbumin. The concentration ot albumin was measured quantitively by immunoturbidimetric method (Behring Turbitime System)The roll—over test was done at 28 to 32 weeks of gestation. The blood pressure was first recorded in the left lateral recumbent position on the left arm. The woman was turned to the supine position and the blood pressure was recorded in the same arm. A rise in diastolic pressure after rolling over, of at least 20 mm Hg defines a positive test. |
