Abstract
Injectable hormonal contraceptives, are among the most effective methods of contraception available today. It is estimated that over 10 million women used this method, and approximately 1.5 millions are currently using
it.
The aim of this work was to study the contraceptive fficacy, side effects and metabolic changes in women using the monthly injectable contraceptive HRP—102 (NET—EN 50 mg + estradiol valerate 5 mg).
The chosen subjects were selected from those women attending the family planningc1inic of Shatby Maternity Hospital. Before the first injection, the purpose of the study and the possibility side effects were explained to them. They are advised to attend the clinic at the scheduled follow up intervals.
The studied parameters included the patterns of menstrual cycle, contraceptive efficacy, blood pressure and body weight changes, Papanicolaou smear and metabolic parameters.
