Abstract Preterm labor is defined as spontaneous onset of labor, occurring before completed 37 weeks of gestation. It varies between 5 - 15% of the number of live birth, and increase much more in developing countries. The aim of this work is to assess the efficacy of glycerin trinirate skin patches in arresting preterm labor and to evaluate its value in prolongation of pregnancy compared to ritodrine. In this work we have conduct an observational study comparing transdermal glyceryl trinitrate to intravenous ritodrine, 30 pregnant women diagnosed as preterm labor with gestational age ranged between 27-34 weeks, were randomly classified into two groups • First group : consists of 15 pregnant women with preterm labor pain in which transdermal nitroderm patches were applied on the abdomen. • Second oup: consists of 15 preant women with pretenri labor pain in which intravenous ritodrine then oral therapy as a maintenance dose was given to arrest labor pain. The result was analyzed statistically and the end results were 1) There were no significant difference in the demoaphic data in the two groups before the use of any treatment. |
