Abstract Tinnitus is defined as the conscious experience of a sound that originates in the head . It affects approximately 17% of the general population (Sindhusake et al^ 2003). The quality of life can be severely impaired by the psychologic effects of tinnitus on the patient and, indirectly, on the involved family. Tinnitus even may precipitate suicide in some patients (Lewis et ah, 1994). We aimed in this study to estimate and compare the effect of intratympanic instillation of lignocaine (lidocaine) 2.5 percent with intratympanic instillation of steroids (dexamethazon) Img/cc in treatment of tinnitus with sensorineural hearing loss of cochlear origin. We have selected fifty patients suffering from bilateral tinnitus with bilateral SNHL with nearly the same intensity according to certain inclusion & exclusion criteria and we divided them into two main groups (after filling a detailed questionnaire and subjected to meticulous clinical, laboratory & audiological assessment): Group I: 50 right ear of the 50 patients we have selected. Grow II: 50 left ear of the same patients. • Both groups suffering from bilateral tinnitus and SNHL. • Each patient, in order to minimize the pain produced by the repeated intratympanic injections, underwent aventilation tube insertion after being consented. |
