Abstract
This work was done to study the growth differences in different muscles using precise quantitative and qualitative methods.
Material and methods:”
Albino rat was used as an experimental animal to obtain voluntary skeletal muscles (Biceps femoris and vastus lateratis)involuntary skeletal muscle (diaphragm) and special type of muscle(cardiac muscle) at different ages viz., Day 1 ,Day 10, Day 21 and Day 45.
Gross measurements (volume and weight) were done at each selected age.
Histological description was done using the light microscope to obtain the qualitative data.
Morphometry was done on projected microscopic fields to determine the average muscle fiber diameter and the numerical density of muscle fibers in a given mass of tissue (100000 u3).
The quantitative results were statistically analyzed using Student t~ test and analysis of variance (correlation and regression).
Results :-
A- Gross study:
The muscle weight was found to progressively increase through age (Dl, D10, D21 and D45):
For Biceps femoris it was (0.0144, 0.0351, 0.0721 and 0.8106 gin). For Vastus lateralis it was (0.0093, 0.0196, 0.0678 and 0.1638 gm). For heart it was (0.035, 0.0883, 0.3185 and 0.6734 gm).
