Abstract Diabetes mellitus is a major health problem world wide long term micro and macrovascular complications, responsible for the majority of its morbidity and mortaity. It was suggested that a disproportionate elevation of plasma PAI-1, which is characteristic and perhaps a direct consequence of hyper-lipidemia and hyperglycemia typical of type 2 diabetic patients, has pathogenic impact on the development of these vascular complications. This led us to the study of PAI-1 in diabetic patients with and without vascular complications. The study was carried out on 40 diabetic and 10 normal healthy control subjects from A;exandria Main University Hospital. 20 type 2 diabetics without vascular complications and 20 type 2 diabetics with vascular complications, 10 of them with nicrovascular complications and the other 10 with macrovascular complications. |
