Abstract The aim of this work was to study the different causes of shoulder pain and shoulder joint problems in hemiplegic patients. This study was carried out on 100 hemiplegic patients with shoulder pain after stroke. There was 46 male patients (with a mean age of 57.78 ±10.54) and 54 female patients (with a mean age of 55.52±10.07). These patients were above 40 years age and with the absence of recurrent attacks of stroke. All patients underwent complete history taking, neurological and shoulder examination. Also laboratory investigation was done. It included (RF-ESR-CRP-CBC-senim uric acid). In addition, plain x-ray was done for the hemiplegic shoulder and the sound shoulder joint. The result of this study revealed:- There was a significant relationship between age and the severity of shoulder pain where the older the age, the higher was the severity of shoulder pain. There was a significant relationship between abduction motor power, sensation and shoulder pain. The less the abduction motor power and the more the sensor’ deficit, the higher was the incidence of shoulder pain. The most common cause of shoulder pain in the studied hemiplegic patients was adhesive capsulitis (constituting 30%). The least cause of |
