Abstract

The present study was carried out at the Hormone Laboratory, Department of Environmental Studies, Institute of Graduate Studies and Research, Alexandria University. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of zinc (Zn), selenium (Se) and their combination on physiological, biochemical characteristics and reproductive performance of male rabbits. The results obtained can be summarized as follows:
Treatment with zinc, selenium, and their combination caused:
1-A significant (p<0.05) increase in body weight, feed intake and drinking water 2- A significant (p<0.05) increase in plasma total protein and protein content of brain and liver 3- A significant (p<0.05) decrease in plasm glucose, total lipids and cholesterol was observed in animals treated with zinc, selenium, and their combination 4-treatment did not cause any significant change in the activities of AST, ALT, AcP and ALP in plasma. While, treatments caused significant (P<0.05) increase in the activities of AST and AIP in liver and testes 5-zinc, selenium, and their combination did not affect the activities of plasma and brain AChE as compared with control group 6- treatment with zinc, selenium, and their combination caused significant (P<0.05) increase in plasma and different tissues SOD and SH-group content as compared with control animals. While , treatments caused insignificant (P<0.05) increase in the activity of GST 7-treatment with zinc, selenium, and their combination caused a significant (P<0.05) decrease in plasma, liver, kidney and brain TBARS as compared with control group 8-zinc, selenium and their combination treatment caused a significant (P<0.05) increase in ejaculate volume, sperm concentration, TSO, sperm motility, TMS, TFSF, normal sperm, initial fructose and PSV. While, percentages of dead sperm and pH were significantly decreased as compared with control group 9-A significant increase (P<0.05) in seminal plasma AST, ALT, GST, SOD and SH-group content and decrease (P<0.05) in AcP and TBARS was observed due to treatment with zinc, selenium, and their combination as compared with control group
