Abstract Despite of efforts to vaccinate children, congenital rubella syndrome continues to be an important problem in many countries. This study aimed to determine the susceptibility to rubella infection and related knowledge, attitude and practice ( KAP) among women at the childbearing period. A cross- sectional rubella sero- epidemiological survey was conducted at Shebin E Kom MCH centre including 342 randomly selected women at reproductive age ( 15-45 years). Data was collected through a pre- designed interview questionnaire including the personal data past history of previous rubella like infection. Questions about S.E status and questions to assess their knowledge, attitude and practice towards rubella and its vaccine. Semi – quantitative and qualitative detection of serum level of rubella IgG was done by ELISA technique using commercially available kits. Results revealed that the percent of susceptible ( Rubella I gG seronegative ) women was 16.4% among women at the age of reproduction. There was a statistically significant association between rubella IgG sero- negative women and age, susceptibility to rubella infection being higher among younger age group ( 15-25 years). |
