Abstract

Transeatheler arterial ehemoembolization (TACLi) has been an effective means for treating unreseetable hepatoeellular carcinomas (1 ICC), in the majority of eases with 1 ICC, however, complete cure is still rare because of either incomplete necrosis or mullifoealily of the tumors. Hence, it is still necessary to follow up the patients. The usefulness of angiography, CT, and MR imaging in evaluating the effectiveness of TACI.i has been reported, however, angiography is invasive procedure and both C T and MR I require the use of contrast materials. Therefore the ability to detect residual viable tumor by a simple, non invasive technique such as power and color Doppler sonography is valuable.
In this study, post TACK vascularity of hepatoeellular carcinoma lesions has been evaluated by both color and power Doppler imaging. It was conducted upon 24 patients 19 males and 5 females), their ages ranging between 40 and 69 years.
In our study, we observed that, Power Doppler sonography (PDS)was more sensitive than color Doppler sonography(CDS) in the detection of post TACT: intratumoural vascularity of HCC in the right hepatic lobe(72.7% by PDS compared to 54.5% by CDS) but not in left hepatic lobe(50% by both PDS and CDS).
