Abstract

Recently musculoskeletal ultrasonography is becoming an attractive imaging modality for evaluation of joint and periaticular pathology because of its inherit advantages such as accessibility, low cost, rapid examination, its ability to detect soft tissues and cartilages which can’t be seen by conventional radiography and no hazards of ionizing radiation. Musculoskeletal ultrasonography has an important role in evaluation of cases of painful wrist joint. Wrist ultiasonography examination is highly sensitive in cases of nerve entrapment and its value is cleared in : diagnosis the nerve lesion, localization of it’s site and to differentiate between types of its injury, and it’s ability increases with increased degree of entrapment. Ultrasoinography is able in detecting osseous and soft tissue injuries in traumatic cases than do conventional radiography, with more sensitivity iii cases with soft tissue injuries.
• Ultrasoinography is very sensitive in diagnosis of ganglions and to detect its origin. Ultrasoinography is very sensitive in diagnosis of cases with tenosynovitis and to differentiate between diffuse and localized types.
• Ultrasonography has a limited role iii diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and it’s sensitivity increases as the disease is progle3sed. Cinical examination, complementary laboratory investigation and plain radiography are needed to reach the final diagnosis in these cases.
