Abstract

In the present tested the prevalence and clinical predictors of aspirin resistance by prospectively studding 45 patients with stable coronary artery disease and 15 healthy control individual who were receiving aspirin (320 mg/day for ? 7days) but no other antiplatelet agents.
We also compare the detection of aspirin resistance by optical aggregation, with aspirin non response by bleeding time.
Blood samples by optical aggregation using adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and arachedonic acid, and by bleeding time using Duke’s methods.
Aspirin resistance was defined as a mean aggregation of ? 70% with 10 µM ADP and a mean aggregation of ? 20% 0.5 mg/ml arachedonic acid. Aspirin semiresponders were defined as meeting one, but not both of the above criteria.
Patient considered non responders by Duke’s methods if his post-ASA bleeding time was not 2 SDs above his base line bleeding time, where SD was estimated from the base line bleeding time of the 15 health control individuals.
By optical aggregation , 8.9% of the patients were aspirin resistance and 28.9% were aspirin semi responders where 6.7% of health control individual were aspirin resistance and 13.3% were aspirin semi responded
