Abstract

Different laboratory experiments had been conducted to study the insecticidal and biological activities of certain insecticides against the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd). The obtained results could be summarized as follows: 1. The bacterial preparation dipel 2x (Bacillus thuringiensis) showed superior insecticidal activity against the 4th instar larvae of the tested insect, while Kz mineral oil and pyriproxyfen showed inferior effectiveness in this respect. 2. The three tested insecticides increased larvae and pupal durations and decreased the pupal weight and caused slight malformation in pupae resulted from treated larvae. The same trend occurred with the adult emergence, where treated adult longevity slightly increased than the untreated ones. 3. The three tested compounds caused remarkable mortality among the full grown larvae when they were placed oil the soil surface previously mixed with different concentrations of tile three toxicants. Tile larval mortality positively correlated with the tested concentration. Pupation and adult emergence decreased with increasing the tested concentration with increased percentage of pupal and adult malformation. 4. As for the ovicidal activity of the three toxicants, the result indicated important role of insecticidal concentration in determining the treated egg hatchability. The highest sterility percent was achieved with pyriproxyfen followed by Kz oil and dipel 2x. The duration of the resulted and survived larvae prolonged in case of pyriproxyfen and Kz oil and shortened than normal in case of dipel 2x. 5. When different concentrations of the three toxicants were mixed with the sugar solution and offered to the adult moths for feeding. The three compounds greatly affected fecundity, fertility and adult longevity. 6. The effect of the tested compounds oil total protein, AChE, acid & akaline phosphatases, GOT, GPT, invertase, amylase and trehalase was evaluated.
