Abstract Recently, musculoskeletal ultrasonography is becoming an attractive imaging modality for evaluation of joint and peri¬articular pathology because of its inherent advantage such as accessibility technologic and low cost, in addition to the marked advances that. Occurred in the ultrasonographic equipments, that increased its accuracy not just in diagnosis but also in management such as US guided biopsy, aspiration, and injections. The shoulder joint is anatomically a complex joint, with different structures contributing not just to its mobility but also its stability. These structures can be affected by various types of pathological lesions such as Rotator cuff disorders biceps tendon disorders, joint disorders and instability and bone disorders. The major role that US can contribute in evaluation of shoulder pathology is its ability to accurately diagnose rotator cuff tears and biceps tendon instability. A full thickness. rotator cuff tear appears on US examination as: *A fluid filled defect, which is the commonest appearance and the easiest to recognize. *A non-visualization of the tendon that occurs in massive tears due to complete retraction of the tendon under the acromion. *A loss of normal convexity of the cuff. |
